For whatever reason, be it distance or circumstance, maybe this year you’re on your own. Which actually could be a really good thing. Instead of stressing over holiday travel or family dynamics, you can “focus less on society’s expectations and more on creating space to do what makes you happy.” It’s a chance to choose what’s right for you.
There’s so much stuff you can do. Sleep in, spend the day in your jammies. Make yourself your favorite meal and binge watch that show you’ve been meaning to get to. Put on something festive and take an awe walk along the window displays of your local stores before going to the movies. Use the season as a reason to reach out to those you may have lost touch with. You might find that they, too, are on their own and readily welcome a friendly chat.
Looking past the concept of how the holidays should be and exploring how they can be means you get to decide how to celebrate, whether it’s filling the days with busyness or with nothing at all. Either way, it’s your holiday and you get to make it all your own.
If you, someone you love or someone in your network are facing the holidays alone and need support, a Mental Health Coach can help put you on the path to developing the tools and techniques that can get you through. To learn how, have a confidential conversation with Cindy via phone at 631-921-4085 or reach her directly via email here to discuss the benefits of working with a member of our Mental Health Coach team.
