Journaling is an effective tool to release and review thoughts and feelings. But sometimes we think so fast that even the quickest writing can’t keep up. In order to capture everything Audio, or Voice Journaling, is an easy swap-out. And insofar as strategies for stress management go, talking to yourself isn’t as crazy as it sounds.

Speaking our troubles out loud can give insight and clarity as to the core of our problems and how to solve them. To reduce any hesitation about performing this practice, just think of it as CBTing yourself. CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) or talk therapy is super popular right now for good reason. Verbalizing your thoughts prompts a change in thinking patterns from aggravating to inspiring.

Start a habit of recording stressors during the course of your day. Most mobile devices have built-in recording apps that you can use or you can try apps like OneNote or EverNote. During your workout, on your commute, anytime you find yourself ruminating internally switch to releasing it by saying it out loud. Incorporate a review of what you’ve recorded during the day as part of your nighttime routine. You may find that some of your problems have already worked themselves out, or that you can come up with solutions so you don’t revisit them the next day.

Carrying around anger and resentment only adds to your stress. Do some good for yourself and get it all off your chest by talking to yourself. A clear mind leads to clear choices and a calmer you.

If you want to explore journaling as part of your self care but are having a tough time getting started or sticking with a journaling routine, a Mental Health Coach can help. They can hold you accountable to your new practice and support you through those times when it may get uncomfortable speaking or writing about your feelings. Your Coach will honor your journaling privacy and place no judgement if you choose to share what you have written with them.
